“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” Frederick Douglass (1817–1895)
The Well Child Visit is vital to the health and wellness of your child. It is an annual exam done by your pediatrician. The annual Well Child Visit builds a medical history documenting health changes from one year to the next. The full exam offers the physician time to provide wellness guidance and advice, monitor the heart and blood pressure, complete pediatric vision screenings and conduct screen for cholesterol and anemia.
In addition, the Well Child Visit allows the pediatrician to address vaccines, and any emotional, developmental or social concerns a child or child’s parents may have, especially as the child grows into a teenager.
Your pediatrician may also complete the paperwork for your child’s sports physical. Remember, sports physicals are NOT a replacement for the Annual Well Child Visit. Be sure to schedule Annual Well Child Visits with your pediatrician.
While all students playing sports are required to complete a Sports Physical prior to playing, the Sports Physical is often a last minute urgent errand that must be done so Johnny can play ball. The Well Child Visit eliminates the need for a sports physical. However, a sports physical DOES NOT replace the Well Child Visit.
When you are in a pinch, Urgent Care Hawaii offers convenient, affordable sports physicals for children with no appointment required. Check with your school for annual and sports physical requirements.
