We are seeing an increase in patients with the stomach flu. Here is some helpful information:
Some of the symptoms are:
- watery diarrhea
- muscle aches
- low grade fever
Drink the right fluids – water and sports drinks. Ginger and peppermint tea can help with nausea. Take small sips. Stay away from caffeine and alcohol. Once you can keep food down, start with bananas, white rice, applesauce and toast. Stay away from spicy foods and dairy. Rest.
Remember, the stomach flu is contagious. Prevention includes getting a flu shot, staying away from sick people, disinfecting dishes in the dishwasher, using soap and water, and disinfecting surfaces.
Note: Call 808.456.2273, make an appointment, or walk in to one of our four Urgent Care Hawaii locations if you haven’t been able to keep liquids down for 24 hours or have a fever above 102 degrees F. We can help alleviate dehydration and provide prescriptions to help relieve the symptoms.
